Real Estate During Divorce Requires More Than a Traditional REALTOR®

Divorce isn't just selling a house. It's helping two people who no longer want to partner with each other make one final business decision together. When a home is involved, the decisions you make during the process can impact your finances, housing options, and future for years to come.

For a little while longer, you're still business partners. My job is to help you partner when you don't feel like partnering so you can get through the sale with as little conflict, delay, and expense as possible.

As a California REALTOR® and Real Estate Collaboration Specialist in Divorce (RCS-D), I help couples navigate one of the most financially significant decisions they'll make—not by taking sides, but by helping everyone move forward (hopefully in peace).

Sometimes the right answer is selling the home. Sometimes it's keeping it. One of my jobs is helping you understand your options before you make a decision you'll have to live with for years. If you're considering keeping the house, I'll also walk you through the four most common pitfalls I see people fall into, and how to avoid the financial and emotional consequences that often follow.

I work with homeowners throughout San Francisco, the Sierra Foothills, and Northern California. Whether your divorce is amicable or high-conflict, my goal is the same: helping you make smart decisions, avoid unnecessary conflict, and move forward with confidence.

What Is a Real Estate Collaboration Specialist in Divorce (RCS-D)?

An RCS-D is a REALTOR® with specialized training in the unique challenges that come with real estate during divorce. While every transaction is different, the work often includes:

• Selling a jointly owned home

• Helping one spouse buy out the other

• Determining a home's market value

• Coordinating with attorneys, mediators, financial professionals, and other members of the divorce team

• Solving problems and keeping communication moving when emotions are running high

• Managing inspections, disclosures, and the mountain of paperwork that comes with a real estate transaction

• Finding practical solutions when both parties have different goals

How I Help

When Selling the Family Home Is the Right Choice

When selling the home is the right choice, I take care of the real estate so you can focus on everything else life is throwing at you. I'll guide both parties through preparing the home, pricing it, marketing it, negotiating offers, and getting to the closing table. I can also manage much of the preparation—from coordinating vendors to staging—so you don't have to. All the while, I'll keep communication clear and everyone on the same page.

Buyouts and Equity Transfers

Not every divorce ends with a "For Sale" sign in the front yard. Sometimes one spouse keeps the home and buys out the other's interest.

If that's the path you're considering, I'll help you understand the home's current market value and work alongside your lender, attorney, mediator, and other professionals to help the process move as smoothly as possible.

Collaborative Divorce Support

Divorce is rarely a solo effort. I regularly work alongside divorce attorneys, mediators, financial professionals, and other members of the collaborative divorce team to help keep the real estate moving forward. My role is to provide clear communication, practical guidance, and real estate expertise so everyone can make informed decisions together.
